ME

If I had blond hair and blue eyes would you see me
would I become more human because I looked like thee
when you look at me, what do you see
a woman, a mother, a lover, a wife
If you wore my shoes for just one day
could you then relate to my dismay

If I had blond hair and blue eyes would you see me
do you not see that I bleed like thee
do you not see the pain I feel
distress and anguish that may not heal

When you look at me what do you see
do you see the daughter, the sister, the poet, the writer
If you walked in my shoes for just one day
then perhaps, only maybe you would see ME
